Are you an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer looking for your next London contract?
I'm supporting a London Local Authority that is looking to appoint an experienced officer to join its Private Sector Housing and Enforcement team, helping to improve housing conditions, protect tenants and take action against non-compliant landlords.
The role will involve managing a varied housing enforcement caseload, responding to service requests, carrying out property inspections and independently progressing cases from inspection through to resolution. You will also undertake HMO inspections, investigate unlicensed properties and take appropriate informal and formal enforcement action.
Key responsibilities:
Carrying out inspections of privately rented accommodation and identifying housing hazards.
Undertaking HHSRS assessments and determining appropriate enforcement action.
Responding to complaints and service requests from tenants in the private rented sector.
Managing a varied private sector housing enforcement caseload.
Inspecting Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).
Investigating unlicensed properties and licensing breaches.
Preparing and serving statutory notices.
Taking appropriate informal and formal enforcement action where required.
Progressing cases in accordance with the Housing Act 2004, HHSRS and other relevant housing legislation.
Maintaining clear evidential records and independently progressing cases through to resolution.
Communicating confidently with tenants, landlords, managing agents and partner organisations.
Essential experience:
Strong experience working within Private Sector Housing enforcement.
Competent and experienced in carrying out HHSRS inspections.
Experience of HMO inspections and enforcement.
Good working knowledge of the Housing Act 2004.
Experience preparing and serving statutory notices.
Experience managing complex housing service requests and enforcement cases.
Strong inspection, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
The ability to independently manage a demanding caseload.
Confidence dealing with landlords, tenants and other relevant parties.Experience with civil penalties, prosecution case preparation, court or tribunal work and licensing enforcement would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will join a busy London regulatory service on an initial 3-month rolling contract, offering £50-£55 per hour depending on experience, with hybrid working based on service requirements.
