Job Description

We are looking for a Production Team Leader to work on a permanent basis for a large engineering company based in St Helens. The salary is c£35-37,000 per annum plus 25 days' holiday and bank holidays, company bonus, pension, healthcare etc The shift pattern is Monday to Friday on 6am - 2pm and 2pm - 10pm. The Production Team Leader is responsible for coordinating daily manufacturing activities, guiding production staff, and ensuring that output, safety, and quality standards are consistently achieved. The role involves monitoring workflow, supporting continuous improvement, and maintaining strong team performance across the shift. Key Responsibilities for the Production Team Leader: Production Coordination * Oversee day-to-day production operations to ensure targets for safety, quality, and efficiency are met. * Plan and organise shift activities, adjusting resources and tasks to maintain smooth workflow and meet production requirements. * Monitor work-in-progress levels and respond to bottlenecks or delays promptly. Performance Management * Track team performance and productivity, investigate causes of underperformance, and escalate concerns where needed. * Maintain up-to-date production boards, KPIs, and related documentation. * Uphold workplace discipline, attendance standards, and consistent performance within the team. Quality & Compliance * Ensure all production activities align with established quality standards and relevant procedures. * Maintain accurate and legible documents, ensuring correct filing and compliance with required quality systems. * Highlight issues affecting quality or process control and take appropriate steps to address them. Operational Standards * Champion 5S standards and ensure work areas remain organised, clean, and safe. * Ensure operator-level equipment checks and basic maintenance tasks are completed properly. * Promote “Right First Time” principles and work to minimise defects and rework. Leadership & Improvement * Provide guidance, feedback, and support to operators to build skills and encourage best practice. * Work collaboratively with senior operational staff to drive continuous improvement and implement process enhancements. Person Specification for the Production Team Leader: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities * Strong understanding of health and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment. * Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team. * Confident leadership style with the ability to manage performance effectively. * Working knowledge of continuous improvement principles and practical application on the shop floor. * Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and adapt to changing demands. Experience & Qualifications for the Production Team Leader: * Typically three or more years of experience in a supervisory or team-leading role in a production or manufacturing environment. * Approximately five years of experience working within a manufacturing setting. * Health and safety training (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent) is desirable.
