Head of Gabion Division | UK

Some career moves give you a new title.  Others give you the chance to build something of your own.

An established civil engineering contractor is looking for an experienced engineer to take the lead of its specialist Gabion Division.

The division already has an excellent reputation, an established client base and around £1m turnover.

The ambition?

To grow it to £8m over the next five years, expand its presence across the UK and take on increasingly complex projects.

And they're looking for someone who wants to help make that happen.

There are two routes into this role.

You might already be a gabion, retaining wall or ground engineering specialist, ready to take your experience into a role with much greater responsibility, autonomy and commercial influence.

Or you might be an experienced Civil Engineer / Project Manager who has spent your career successfully delivering complex projects, managing clients and teams, and taking commercial responsibility — but you're now ready for something different.

You don't need to have spent your career in gabions; You do need to be someone who is technically credible, commercially aware, curious and hungry for a challenge.

Initially, you'll work closely with the Managing Director, getting to know the business, its clients and its opportunities.  You'll oversee engineering solutions, gabion and retaining-wall designs, tenders and project delivery.

But this role goes well beyond engineering.

You'll also:

Build and develop client relationships
Identify and pursue new opportunities
Help grow the division commercially
Develop and lead the team
Represent the business within the industry
Influence the direction of the division
Ultimately take ownership of its performance and growth
The long-term vision is for you to become the person who runs this part of the business. This isn't about stepping into an established position and doing the same thing somewhere else.  It's about taking something that already works and building it into something significantly bigger.
