About the Role:
We are seeking a Research Assistant to join our Animal Science team on a short-term project. This role will play a central part in data handling, analysis, and interpretation, supporting research that explores relationships between disability, demographic factors, and key performance metrics within higher education.
Key Responsibilities:
* Access and manage national-level datasets (HESA/HEIDI Plus) in compliance with data governance protocols.
* Conduct descriptive and inferential statistical analyses to identify trends and relationships.
* Create clear and engaging data visualisations, including charts, tables, and dashboards.
* Support classification of land-based subject areas within national datasets.
* Summarise findings in written reports, tables, and infographics.
* Contribute to project outputs, including internal briefings.
* Attend weekly team meetings.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Strong quantitative data analysis skills with experience handling large, complex datasets.
* Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python, or Stata).
* Ability to clean and manage datasets, perform statistical tests, and interpret results accurately.
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small research team.
Desirable Attributes:
* Familiarity with higher education datasets (e.g., HESA student or graduate outcomes data).
* Experience analysing demographic or EDI-related data.
* Interest in widening participation, disability inclusion, or education policy.
* Understanding of UK higher education, particularly land-based or applied science disciplines.
