About the Role Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and resilient Science Teacher to work within a specialist educational setting in the Tonbridge area. The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may display challenging behaviour and require a highly structured and supportive learning environment. This role is suited to an experienced teacher who has a strong background working with pupils with SEMH needs and who is confident managing challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will be able to deliver engaging and accessible Science lessons while supporting students’ emotional development and re-engagement with education. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons that meet the needs of pupils with SEMH needs. Adapt teaching strategies to support students with varying academic abilities and emotional needs. Manage and respond effectively to challenging behaviour using positive behaviour management strategies. Create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes both learning and wellbeing. Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and senior leaders to support individual behaviour and learning plans. Monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching methods where necessary to support development. Encourage curiosity, resilience, and confidence in learning through practical and engaging Science activities. Essential Requirements Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or equivalent teaching qualification. Proven experience working with pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is essential. Demonstrable experience managing challenging behaviour within a school or specialist education setting. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students. A flexible and patient approach to teaching students who may have experienced barriers to education. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Desirable Previous experience working in a specialist, alternative provision, or SEMH school. Experience delivering Science across KS3 and KS4. Training in behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, or therapeutic approaches.
