Job Description

Location: Plymouth and surrounding areas Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm Contract: Full-Time Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Learning Support Assistant to support children and young people with additional needs across Plymouth. This is a rewarding role working with pupils who require additional support both within educational settings and through outreach learning in the community. Successful candidates will play a key role in helping students develop their confidence, independence, social skills, and engagement with learning. A significant element of this position involves supporting learners during community-based activities and educational visits, therefore applicants must be able to drive and transport pupils when required. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with Special Educational Needs. Support students both in educational settings and within the local community. Assist pupils with social, emotional, and behavioural needs. Encourage independence, confidence, and positive engagement. Adapt support strategies to meet individual learning needs. Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and families. Ensure the safety and wellbeing of pupils at all times. Transport and accompany students to outreach and community-based learning activities. Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and engagement. Essential Requirements Full UK Driving Licence. Access to your own vehicle. Business Use Motor Insurance. Experience working with children or young people. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Calm, patient, and resilient approach. Ability to build positive relationships with students. Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities. Willingness to work across multiple locations in Plymouth. Desirable Experience Previous experience supporting children with: Autism (ASD) SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) ADHD Learning Difficulties Speech & Language Needs Team Teach or Positive Behaviour Support training. Experience working within SEN schools, PRUs, alternative provisions, or outreach settings. First Aid qualification.
