Job Description

Job Title: SEN Teacher – SEMH Setting Location: Andover, Hampshire Salary: In line with Teacher Pay Scale Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent Start Date: September 2026 (earlier start available for the right candidate) A welcoming and specialist SEMH provision in Andover is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and resilient SEN Teacher to join its supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher who is committed to inclusive education and making a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people. The role will primarily involve teaching pupils within the primary phase, with opportunities to support secondary-aged learners where appropriate. Classes are small, well-supported, and focused on helping pupils achieve both academically and personally within a structured, nurturing, and therapeutic environment. This setting supports pupils aged 4–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside additional learning needs. Many pupils may be working below age-related expectations and benefit from a patient, adaptable, and relationship-focused approach. As an SEN Teacher, you will: Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to individual pupil needs Create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment Support pupils with SEMH needs using positive behaviour and relational approaches Adapt teaching strategies to support pupils working below age-related expectations Build strong, trusting relationships that promote engagement, confidence, and progress Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and external professionals Monitor pupil progress both academically and emotionally Support pupils’ wellbeing, resilience, and personal development The setting offers: Small class sizes with high levels of adult support Pupils aged 4–16 with SEMH and additional learning needs A therapeutic and trauma-informed approach to behaviour and wellbeing A supportive, collaborative, and experienced staff team Opportunities to work across both primary and secondary age groups Well-resourced learning environments designed to support pupil success The successful candidate will have: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Experience within a primary, SEN, SEMH, or alternative provision setting Strong understanding of inclusive and adaptive teaching practices The ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may display challenging behaviour A calm, resilient, and flexible approach to teaching and learning The following would also be desirable: Experience working within SEMH or specialist settings Knowledge of trauma-informed or restorative practices Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs and/or autism In return, the setting offers: A supportive leadership team and strong pastoral support Ongoing professional development and specialist SEMH training The opportunity to make a lasting impact on young people’s lives A collaborative working environment where staff wellbeing is valued Meaningful and rewarding career progression opportunities Applications are welcomed from both experienced teachers and Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who are passionate about inclusive education and supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
