Job Description

Job Title: Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant (KS3/KS4) Location: Chorley, Lancashire Contract Type: Full-Time | Term-Time Only About the School Our client is a specialist SEN school supporting pupils aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties, and cognition and learning challenges. The school provides a nurturing, structured, and highly supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience, independence, and the skills needed to thrive both academically and personally. Role Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Chorley, supporting KS3 and KS4 pupils with a range of additional needs. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and wider school staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally, helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment where every young person can achieve their potential. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, adaptable, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs. Key Responsibilities Provide classroom support for KS3 and KS4 pupils with a range of SEN needs Work closely with teachers to deliver engaging and differentiated learning activities Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small group interventions Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment Support pupils in developing communication, independence, and confidence Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals Requirements Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable Understanding of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties Calm, patient, and nurturing approach Strong communication and behaviour management skills Ability to build positive relationships and support pupils effectively Flexible and adaptable attitude to supporting learning and wellbeing Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable but not essential Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) Benefits Competitive salary dependent on experience Ongoing SEN-focused CPD and training opportunities Supportive leadership team and collaborative staff environment Opportunity to make a meaningful difference in young people's lives Smaller class sizes and additional classroom support Rewarding role within a specialist and supportive SEN settingAPPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR VERITAS EDUCATION All applications are subject to an Enhanced DBS Disclosure, professional reference checks, Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable) in line with our stringent safeguarding policy Your CV must cover the last 10 years of employment history where possible and all employment breaks must be explained You must have legal right to work in the UK You must be willing to attend a registration interviewVeritas Education work with a variety of schools covering a wide geographical area.
