Learning Support Assistant - Specialist Secondary Provision
We are currently recruiting for passionate and resilient Learning Support Assistants to join a specialist secondary setting supporting young people who may face barriers to mainstream education due to social, emotional, or additional learning needs.
This is a rewarding opportunity for individuals who are committed to helping students regain confidence, develop independence, and achieve positive educational outcomes within a nurturing and structured environment.
The successful candidates will work closely with teaching staff and wider professionals to provide both academic and pastoral support, helping learners to build resilience, improve engagement, and develop essential life and social skills.
Main Responsibilities
Develop positive and consistent working relationships with students, providing encouragement, structure, and emotional support
Assist in delivering tailored learning and intervention activities designed to meet individual needs
Support students on a one-to-one basis and within small group settings across a range of educational and enrichment activities
Promote a calm, safe, and inclusive environment that supports student wellbeing and participation
Help learners develop confidence, self-regulation strategies, communication skills, and independence
Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and external professionals to support progress and successful outcomes
Monitor student engagement and contribute to progress reviews, reporting, and support planning
Prepare and adapt learning resources to meet varying ability levels and learning styles
Support educational visits, enrichment activities, and wider provision as required
Uphold safeguarding, behaviour, equality, and health & safety procedures at all times
Candidate Profile
We are seeking individuals who:
Have experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, care, or similar support settings
Understand the challenges some young people face in accessing education and learning
Are calm, patient, empathetic, and able to build professional relationships with young people
Possess strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills
Are adaptable and able to respond positively within a fast-paced environment
Can support positive behaviour and encourage student engagement
Have a good standard of literacy, numeracy, and basic ICT skills
