Secondary Teacher of Design Technology (DT) – SEND School – Gateshead

About the Role
Humly is seeking a passionate and dedicated Secondary Teacher of Design Technology (DT) to join an outstanding SEND school in South Shields. This is a full-time position for the remainder of the academic year, with the potential to become permanent.

This is a truly unique setting, with exceptional facilities, high-quality resources, a supportive team, and an inspiring leadership group. The school caters for pupils with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student is supported to thrive.

This role is ideal for a creative and adaptable teacher who is committed to delivering engaging, hands-on learning experiences tailored to the needs of all learners.

Key Responsibilities

  * Plan and deliver engaging DT lessons tailored to pupils with MLD and SLD

  * Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of learning needs

  * Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment

  * Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development

  * Monitor, assess, and track pupil progress effectively

  * Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and support staff

  * Contribute to EHCP targets and personalised learning plans

  * Maintain high expectations for behaviour and engagement

  * Promote independence, confidence, and life skills through practical learning

Requirements

  * Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  * Experience teaching Design Technology at secondary level

  * Experience working with SEND pupils (MLD/SLD desirable)

  * Strong understanding of adaptive teaching and inclusive practice

  * Excellent classroom management and communication skills

  * A patient, creative, and flexible approach to teaching

  * Commitment to supporting pupils with additional needs
