Senior Health and Safety Advisor

Salary: £50,000 - £54,000 + Full benefits package

A large, forward-thinking organisation within the not for profit sector is seeking a highly experienced Senior Health and Safety Advisor to join the Health and Safety Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a capable HSE professional to influence best practice, strengthen organisational learning, and drive continuous safety improvement.
About the Role
In this position, you will act as a subject-matter expert on incident management, supporting the organisation with incident classification, reporting, investigation standards, and trend analysis. You will ensure incidents are reviewed accurately, learning is widely shared, and safety performance continues to advance.
Working under the direction of a Senior Health and Safety Manager you’ll use your professional judgment to provide high-quality advice aligned with internal safety principles, regulatory requirements, and recognised industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Review and assess all incident reports within the internal HSE recording system, ensuring accurate severity ratings and high-quality information.
* Promptly escalate all Lost Time Incidents, RIDDOR-reportable events, and High-Potential incidents to senior health and safety colleagues.
* Contribute to developing procedures, communications, and training designed to strengthen organisational capability in incident reporting and management, including Stop Work, near misses, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
* Provide coaching and guidance to incident investigators, helping them enhance their investigation techniques and produce high-quality, professional investigation reports.
* Lead the promotion and application of advanced investigation approaches, including principles of human and organisational performance.
* Support the development of a fair and consistent safety culture by applying just culture principles during incident reviews and investigations.
* Analyse incident data to identify root causes and emerging trends, producing clear, insightful reports with practical recommendations.
* Prepare and distribute engaging learning materials and insights derived from investigations and trend analysis to support organisation-wide awareness.

* Carry out additional tasks appropriate to the role in line with evolving organisational needs.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in health and safety roles.
* Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance requirements.
* NEBOSH National General Certificate (or equivalent qualification).
* Hands-on experience investigating complex H&S incidents, ideally within a construction or similar environment.
