Job Description

Senior Quantity Surveyor – Project Based

A major UK contractor is looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take full commercial responsibility on large, complex projects. You will report to the Project Manager and lead all commercial, contractual and cost-management activities while supporting and developing junior surveyors.

Role Purpose

You will manage the commercial performance of your project, oversee procurement, maintain strong client and subcontractor relationships, protect contractual entitlements, and ensure accurate reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce accurate cost/value reports, forecasts and commercial documentation

• Lead procurement, prepare subcontract orders and ensure scopes are clearly defined

• Manage cash flow, valuations, applications and payments

• Administer contract notices and ensure compliance with all contractual obligations

• Mentor and develop surveyors within the project team

• Maintain strong communication with clients, consultants and site teams

• Review tender information, risks, VE opportunities and support bid inputs

• Produce procurement schedules and initial P&L forecasts

• Manage subcontractor performance, variations, measurements, liabilities and final accounts

• Maintain accurate site records and support programme-related commercial requirements

• Support HSEQ compliance and ensure subcontractors meet all standards

• Assist in closing final accounts, settling subcontracts and managing retention and defects

Post-Construction

• Finalise main contract and subcontract accounts

• Manage defects, recover retention, complete project closeout and archiving

Qualifications & Experience

• RICS/CIOB/ICES-accredited degree or relevant HND/degree with strong numerical or technical content

• Solid experience as an Assistant QS/QS with progression into senior responsibilities

• Good understanding of construction management and techniques
