Job Description

Position: Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant 
 Location: Blackley. 
 Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:30 - 15:00, term time only. 
 Salary: From £106 per day, DOE

About the Role:
 We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and compassionate Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant to join our team in a SEND school setting. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with a diverse range of complex needs, helping them to develop essential life skills, communication abilities, and independence within a nurturing and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide individualised one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with a wide range of SEND, including autism, communication difficulties, sensory needs, learning disabilities, and social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Support pupils in engaging with a highly differentiated curriculum tailored to their EHCP outcomes and personal learning goals.

Assist with communication development, including pupils who use AAC, PECS, Makaton, or who are non-verbal.

Implement positive behaviour support plans, using trauma-informed practice, de-escalation strategies, and a calm, consistent approach.

Help pupils with personal care where required, following training and safeguarding procedures.

Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and sensory-aware learning environment that promotes emotional regulation and wellbeing.

Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists (e.g., Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy), and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure a joined-up approach to support.

About You:
 We are looking for someone with:

Previous experience working in challenging or complex care/education settings.
Knowledge and experience of supporting children or young people with additional needs, particularly autism and challenging behaviour.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
Patience, resilience, and a genuine commitment to helping every child achieve their potential.
