About the Role
We are looking for compassionate and dedicated Support Workers to provide high-quality support to young people (aged 16-18) within the Newcastle-under-Lyme area.
We have two Support Worker opportunities available on a Temporary - Permanent basis, and the positions offer an immediate start for the successful applicant.
Working hours will be Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm.
The aim of the role is to support the young individuals transition to independence by creating a safe, stable, and nurturing environment that meets Ofsted standards and promotes the young people’s emotional, physical, and social well-being.
You will work directly with young people who may have experienced trauma, family breakdowns, or are leaving care, helping them to develop essential life skills, access education, training, and employment, and address their emotional and behavioural needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a key worker for several young people, holding regular key sessions and reviews.
* Develop and implement risk assessments and support plans for young people, ensuring they are tailored to meet individual needs.
* Collaborate with external agencies (social workers, youth offending services, education providers, etc.) to ensure a holistic approach to care and support.
* Attend and contribute to meetings regarding the care and progress of the young people (e.g., placement reviews, care planning meetings).
* Provide emotional and practical support to young people in a non-judgemental, compassionate manner.
* Encourage the development of independent living skills (e.g., cooking, budgeting, time management, and personal care).
* Assist young people in accessing education, training, employment, and community based services.
* Work alongside each young person to create personalised support plans, focusing on their strengths and areas of development.
* Promote a positive, respectful, and safe environment while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Offer ongoing mentoring and guidance to build the confidence and resilience of young people.
* Respond to young people’s needs, ensuring all support is delivered in line with safeguarding policies and Ofsted regulations.
Key Requirements
Essential:
* Experience working with vulnerable young people or in a residential care setting.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
* Understanding of the challenges faced by young people in care or at risk of homelessness.
* Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
* Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired:
* Diploma Level 3 in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent.
* Experience working within an Ofsted-regulated environment.
* Understanding of mental health issues, substance misuse, and trauma-informed care.
* Full driving licence
* 21 years of age or over
