Job Description

Our pupils are amazing and they deserve amazing support staff! An opportunity has arisen for a Teaching Assistant to join the team working to support our pupils. Wings Notts School is an independent special school catering for pupils whose primary diagnosis is autism and who have often struggled in mainstream settings. We offer a low-arousal environment with small group sizes and put our pupils at the centre of everything that we do. As a TA you will put pupils at the centre of your work, supporting them to thrive in the school environment so that they develop the skills needed for life. You will work with pupils to improve opportunities for them to develop their talents and interests and help them to grow in confidence and independence. This will include working with pupils on an individual basis and in small groups, both on a regular and an ad-hoc basis. You will be a team player and work closely with the teachers of Literacy and the wider staff team to ensure pupils achieve the best possible outcomes. Job details Salary: £23,490 (SCP 4) to £24,246 (SCP6) (actual salary for 40 hours per week) Hours: 40 per week – 8.30am-4.30pm Weeks: 45 per year Contract type: Term-time only / Permanent Reporting to: Assistant Head Main purpose To enable all pupils to engage in education by providing support around pupil wellbeing and behaviour. This will involve working with staff and pupils to address barriers to learning and making sure effective policies and procedures are in place. Duties and responsibilities Working with pupils Identify strategies to help overcome individual pupils’ barriers to learning within Literacy Use existing systems to support the monitoring of pupils’ behaviour Provide individual support for pupils and review ongoing progress towards set goals. Provide in class support to meet the needs of our pupils and the school. Working with staff Liaise with other staff to monitoring pupils’ engagement, achievement and well being Work with all teachers to identify pupils in need of additional support and to deliver individual support. Administration Maintain accurate records of interventions and relevant meetings Contribute to the completion of relevant paperwork required by external agencies. Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and our safeguarding and child protection policies Promote the safeguarding of all pupils in the school. Person specification AREA criteria Qualifications and training GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade C in English. Experience Experience working in a school environment or other educational setting Experience working with autistic children / young people with additional needs (e.g., SEND, behavioural, mental health) Experience planning and delivering targeted interventions Experience of delivering phonics education. Skills and knowledge Safeguarding of children and young people Good listening skills Effective written and verbal communication skills Knowledge of the barriers to learning that pupils may face Tailoring plans and interventions to individual pupils Able to use IT systems Able to develop good relationships with children and staff.
