Job Description

Our client is a successful, independent waste management and recycling company and are currently looking to recruit an experienced Transport Manager to manage and maintain our in-house fleet operation and collection services across London and the South East.

This is a key operational role responsible for ensuring the fleet runs efficiently, safely and compliantly while supporting the commercial success of the business. The successful candidate will be structured, organised and confident managing both people and processes in a fast-moving environment.

Fleet & Operation

You will be responsible for the management and performance of a fleet, including:

6 Dustcarts

3 RoRo (Roll-on Roll-off) vehicles

3 Skip vehicles

1 Cage truck

The role also includes direct management of two Transport Supervisors and oversight of all drivers and vehicle operations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  * Optimise the routing and operational efficiency of all company vehicles.

  * Oversee all aspects of planned and unplanned vehicle maintenance, reducing vehicle downtime.

  * Ensure full compliance with all Operator’s Licence obligations, including:

      * Vehicle defect reporting

      * Servicing schedules

      * Safety inspections

      * Accurate vehicle record keeping

  * Maintain strong relationships with external suppliers and contractors while ensuring cost efficiency.

  * Ensure the vehicle workshop operates safely and efficiently.

  * Order parts and spares in line with fitter requirements.

  * Deliver toolbox talks and maintain strong driver engagement on safety and compliance.

  * Support operational planning to ensure transport operations meet commercial and service targets.

Staff Management Responsibilities

  * Manage drivers and oversee their development and performance.

  * Directly manage two Transport Supervisors.

  * Ensure all personnel comply with company policies and procedures.

  * Maintain clear communication across operational teams and departments.

  * Identify training needs and coordinate development where required.

  * Conduct disciplinary procedures where necessary.

  * Promote a positive, productive and safety-focused working environment.

Essential Requirements

  * Valid CPC (Transport Manager CPC)

  * HGV Class 1 Licence

  * Experience managing dustcarts, RoRo or skip vehicles

  * Strong knowledge of Operator’s Licence compliance

  * Experience delivering toolbox talks and driver briefings

  * Proven ability to manage transport operations and teams

Desirable

Experience within the waste management or recycling sector

Strong understanding of the commercial aspects of transport operations
