Job Description

Central Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Youth Justice Service Case Worker, to work in the Haringey area. The service assesses children and young people referred to the Youth Justice Service (YJS) to identify risks and needs associated with potential offending and anti-social behaviour. The successful candidate will be required to work 36 hours per week, working across Monday - Friday, 9AM - 5:30PM. Temporary cover is required until February 2026. The pay rate is £27.22 per hour, with £3.29 holiday pay, totalling £30.51 per hour. In this position, you will be required to: * Prevent offending and re-offending by children and young people by providing effective services as required by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, Criminal Justice & Immigration Act and other legislation * Work in partnership with colleagues and agencies to plan and deliver services aimed at reducing and preventing youth crime * Carry out assessments, prepare reports and manage all appropriate orders * Provide practical focussed programmes and interventions for children/young people and their families demonstrating effective practise * Understand, contribute and lead on the function of Youth, Magistrates and Crown Court work * Liaise with and advise field and residential social workers, relevant departmental staff and other professionals on issues relation to youth crime * Supervision of children/young people subject to bail conditions, remand into Local Authority Accommodation (open and secure), remand into custody, community sentences, through care/post custody license etc. Programmes may include work in social skills, offending behaviour, victim awareness, reparation and assisting clients with employment/training, accommodation, health and substance use issues * Carry out assessments for bail and remand decisions and provide appropriate reports for the Courts * Be responsible in both office and Court duty on a regular basis, including attendance at Crown Court hearings * Develop and maintain all administration, referral and procedural systems * Liaise with colleagues in Children's Social Care and other professionals/teams * Plan, lead and facilitate group work and one to one intervention for children/young people * Contribute to the child first and trauma information practises ethos of the service To apply for this role, you must have: * Up to date knowledge of childcare and youth justice legislation, particularly the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, Criminal Justice & Immigration Act 2008 and Powers of Criminal Courts [Sentencing] Act 2000, Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001, Criminal Justice Act 2003 * Knowledge and understanding of the impact of disproportionality in relation to Black or Global Majority children, young people/families/service delivery across the criminal justice system * Experience of working corporately in a multi-disciplinary setting, including work with both the statutory and voluntary agencies * Ability to undertake high quality assessments, provide clear analysis within agreed timescales and to formulate evidence-based care plans and packages of service provision * Ability to analyse risk in child protection and to plan appropriate interventions * Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people within the context of their family and other social relationships * Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the permanency planning to include adoption, special guardianship and long term fostering * Ability to understand and work with a variety of family relationships and demonstrate an understanding of issues in relation to communities from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds * Knowledge of the principles of childcare legislation relating to child protection, children in care and the provision of services to children in need * Knowledge of social work methods to promote positive change in accordance with assessed need * Verbal and written communication skills to include written reports for conferences, reviews and Court proceedings * Experience of using a range of IT applications including Microsoft Office and computer based youth justice record keeping systems * Essential: relevant Social Work qualification and active HCPC registration or hold a professional qualification in probation or youth work with a minimum 2 years' experience in youth justice Candidates must confirm their interest as soon as possible, with interviews scheduled shortly after and the appointed candidate expected to start as soon as possible.
