We are looking for a motivated and experienced Business Development Manager to join our Pre-Construction team, based in the Glasgow area with regular travel across Scotland and the north of England. The ideal candidate will have business development experience in the civil engineering sector (or related industries), be confident in building client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and presenting to both Client and internal teams.
Strong organisational skills, IT proficiency (Microsoft Office, Teams, Dynamics CRM, PowerPoint), and a full UK driving licence are essential. This role will be based mainly in Scotland with travel to our other locations within the UK. The successful candidate will be required to travel regularly to meet with Clients and other associated organisations.
Key Responsibilities
Identifying and attracting suitable business opportunities through existing and new Client organisations within a broad range of civil engineering sectors.
- Building and developing existing and new Client relationships whilst representing the Company’s values
- Travelling to locations within Scotland, and the UK, to meet potential and existing Clients, as well as other associated organisations
- Research the key Client drivers, identify where the Company can provide value, and effectively communicate this to Clients and/or their representatives
- Be aware of key trends in the market and take appropriate action
- Contributing and presenting confidently in meetings with Clients, internal management, and other meetings as required
- Retaining/communicating Company information such as existing/past projects (experience and capability)
- Inputting/managing data and reporting using Microsoft (MS) packages such as Dynamics 365 CRM
- Managing/contributing to Client Pre-qualification submissions and Client Supplier Portals
- Managing/contributing to the Marketing Department and ongoing marketing and business development campaigns
- Working collaboratively alongside the Estimating Department
- Pro-actively managing, hosting and participating in a range of Client entertainment events
- Pro-actively managing, hosting and participating in a range of industry exhibitions, conferences and Client Supplier events
- Managing/contributing to industry award entry submissions
- Reporting into, and communicating regularly, with the Business Development Director
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Positive and proactive personality and approach
- A good communicator
- IT literacy such as Teams, Word, Excel, Dynamics 365 (CRM), PowerPoint
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Ability to retain business information/data
- Confident to present within a management setting
Desirable Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience in Business Development
- Civil engineering background, knowledge and/or experience
