Job Description

Chief Scientific Officer – Climate Tech/Carbon Capture - Nottingham, UK - Permanent Our client is a pioneering climate-tech company developing breakthrough technology to permanently mineralise CO₂ into high-performance concrete additives. They are an innovative and ambitious startup organisation specialised in developing new calcium-based materials from carbon capture processes. Their mission is to utilise CO₂ and waste to create, stronger, cheaper and cleaner building materials. To continue the growth of the organisation they are seeking a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to lead the transition of their technology from TRL 5 to TRL 8 and deliver performance at industrial scale. The CSO will be responsible to scale chemistry into industrial processes, support scale-up across pilot plant and demonstration plant, ensure performance with real industrial inputs, deliver under tight timelines and budgets and lead a team to achieve clear, measurable outcomes The main targets of this role will be to drive TRL progression (5 to 8), translate lab work into industrial performance, remove scale-up bottlenecks and deliver results through the team The desired outcomes of this role will be to achieve TRL progression, demonstrate a reliable pilot and demo performance, identify and resolve key scale-up risks and to drive a team that consistently delivers against milestones Experience and background • Proven years in industry or startup (not academic-only) • Experience scaling chemical or material technologies beyond lab • Strong understanding of scale-up and industrial constraints • Experience managing teams and budgets • Experience in carbon capture, utilisation, or related fields • PhD or MSc in a relevant field Desirable experience • CO₂ mineralisation • Concrete / Cement chemistry • Startup scale-up experience • IP / patents
