About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Class Teacher to join a specialist SEND school, supporting pupils with autism and complex learning needs. You will be responsible for planning and delivering creative, engaging lessons tailored to individual learning profiles, while promoting independence, communication, and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of pupils with autism and complex learning needs
Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contribute to EHCP targets
Create a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment
Use a range of communication strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton, visual supports)
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals
Monitor and track pupil progress, adapting approaches as needed
Foster positive relationships with pupils, parents, and carers
Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Has experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly autism
Demonstrates strong behaviour management and a calm, patient approach
Is creative, flexible, and committed to inclusive education
Has excellent communication and teamwork skills
Is passionate about supporting pupils with complex needs to achieve their full potential
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience in a specialist SEND or autism setting
Knowledge of sensory integration approaches
Familiarity with communication tools such as PECS or Makaton
Team Teach or other positive behaviour support training
