Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Manager to join a commercial team, managing Domestic Commercial contracts through the full contract life cycle – from bidding and negotiation through to execution and closure.

This role performs the duties of business winning, negotiation, and contract management, and involves engagement at senior management levels, supporting major bids and delivering Defence Capability to the UK Armed Forces and other customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  * Engaging at senior management levels within the business, with line management responsibility for more junior members of the team

  * Working within various multi-functional Project teams, contributing to the overall business plan and safeguarding the business's commercial interests

  * Taking responsibility for the full Route to Contract, acting as the driving force during the bidding process across all commercial aspects, and ensuring cross-functional working to deliver robust and timely bids

  * Drafting and reviewing proposals, terms and conditions, contracts, and pricing/pricing strategy

  * Leading the negotiation of all contracts, agreements and commercial issues, ensuring alignment with company objectives and contractual compliance

  * Overseeing the commercial management of contracts throughout their life cycle, including contract amendments, reviewing contract deliverables, document marking and contract closure

  * Ensuring all contracts comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies and governance, including ITAR, EAR, and other relevant defence industry standards

  * Identifying commercial risks and opportunities associated with bids and contracts, and working with other departments to develop mitigation strategies

  * Acting as the primary point of contact for commercial matters, providing guidance to internal stakeholders and liaising with external clients and partners

  * Providing regular updates and reports to senior management on bids, contract status, key risks, and any significant issues that could impact the business

  * Managing and resolving contract-related disputes in collaboration with legal and other relevant departments, ensuring swift and effective resolution

The ideal candidate must have:

  * Proven experience of Commercial, within a defence environment

  * Experience of drafting, negotiating and agreeing contracts and agreements

  * Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills

  * Ability to manage multiple contracts simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

  * Strategic thinking, supporting overall business objectives for growth and innovation (UK and International)

  * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

  * An accountable, self-starting approach, modelling company values and leading others to be accountable

  * Leadership and line management experience

The ideal candidate would have:

  * Familiarity with MoD contracting structure, including DEFCONs and QDCs
