Job Description

Role Overview

The General Manager is responsible for the overall commercial and operational performance of the Crompton Lamps contract and the Newcastle warehouse operation. The role provides strategic leadership across sales, customer service, warehouse operations, logistics, health and safety, financial performance, and people management.

The postholder will ensure the continued growth and profitability of the Crompton Lamps contract while maintaining an efficient, safe, and high-performing warehouse operation that consistently delivers excellent customer service and operational excellence.

Primary locations:

Bradford – Crompton Lamps Contract

Scotswood Road, Newcastle upon Tyne – Warehouse Operations

Regular travel between both sites is required.

Duties & Key Responsibilities

Sales & Commercial Management

  * Lead the commercial performance of the Crompton Lamps contract based in Bradford.

  * Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue, margin, and profitability targets.

  * Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.

  * Identify opportunities for business growth, contract development, and market expansion.

  * Monitor sales performance through KPIs and provide regular reports to senior management..

Operations Management

  * Take full operational responsibility for the warehouse facility on Scotswood Road, Newcastle.

  * Ensure efficient warehouse operations including goods receiving, storage, stock control, order fulfilment, dispatch, and distribution.

  * Develop operational procedures that support business growth and customer satisfaction.

  * Ensure warehouse resources are effectively planned to meet business demand.

  * Monitor operational KPIs including productivity, accuracy, service levels, and inventory performance.

Leadership & People Management

  * Lead, motivate, and develop teams across both Bradford and Newcastle locations.

  * Set clear objectives and performance expectations.

  * Support recruitment, succession planning, and talent development.

Customer Relationship Management

  * Act as the senior operational contact for the Crompton Lamps contract.

  * Resolve customer issues promptly and professionally.

  * Develop long-term strategic partnerships with customers.

Person Specification

Essential

  * Proven experience in a senior management role covering both sales and operations.

  * Strong commercial awareness with demonstrated responsibility for revenue growth.

  * Significant warehouse and logistics management experience.

  * Excellent leadership and people management skills.

  * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.

Desirable

  * Experience within electrical products, lighting, distribution, or manufacturing sectors.

  * Knowledge of supply chain management.

  * Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.

  * Professional management qualification.
