Job Description

The Junior Maintenance Technician will support the maintenance team in ensuring that all machinery and site equipment are operating safely and efficiently. This entry-level position is ideal for someone looking to begin a career in maintenance and engineering, offering hands-on experience and opportunities for training and development.

Key Responsibilities

Support the completion of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks across site machinery and equipment.

Assist in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical and electrical systems under supervision.

Carry out basic maintenance tasks, such as plumbing, lighting, and general building repairs.

Help maintain accurate maintenance records using maintenance management software (CMMS).

Participate in site safety checks, such as fire alarms, emergency lighting, and safety systems.

Work alongside senior technicians and external contractors during repair or installation projects.

Ensure a clean, organised, and safe working environment in compliance with site health and safety procedures.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance and production areas.

Essential Criteria

A keen interest in maintenance, engineering, or technical work.

GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above) in English, Maths, and a Science subject (Physics or Chemistry preferred).

Good mechanical or electrical aptitude and willingness to learn.

Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Basic IT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office or maintenance software.

Physically fit and able to work in environments that may involve lifting, climbing, or confined spaces.

Full UK driving licence

Desirable Criteria

Level 2 or Level 3 NVQ/BTEC/City & Guilds in Engineering, Maintenance, or a related field (or working towards completion).

Previous experience (including apprenticeship or work placement) in a maintenance, mechanical, or facilities environment.

Knowledge of safe working practices, risk assessments, and COSHH.

Forklift Truck (FLT) licence or willingness to undertake training.
