The Opportunity
An established architectural practice is seeking a skilled and motivated professional to take on a senior role leading the delivery of Principal Designer duties under both Building Regulations and CDM. This is a rare opportunity to shape the firm’s approach to health and safety compliance, mentor colleagues, and progress toward Associate or Director level.
We would also welcome applications from professionals within building control, architecture, construction management, project consultancy, and health & safety compliance.
This role would suit candidates working as Building Control Surveyor, Clerk of Works, Project Manager, Health & Safety Consultant, CDM Advisor, Senior Architectural Technologist, Design Manager, Construction Manager, Building Surveyor, or Compliance Manager.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
• Oversee and enhance the practice’s procedures for Principal Designer duties, ensuring full compliance with CDM and Building Safety legislation.
• Provide leadership and technical advice across the project lifecycle, from design through to completion.
• Develop and maintain robust QA and health & safety records for all projects, ensuring continuous monitoring and improvement.
• Support project teams with training and CPD activities focused on safety, risk management, and regulatory changes.
• Represent the practice at client, design team, and site meetings, promoting best practice in design safety and compliance.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
• Proven background in design, building control, project management, or health & safety within the construction industry.
• In-depth knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022, Secondary Legislation 2023, and related Gateway processes.
• Strong understanding of risk management, design safety principles, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and guide multidisciplinary teams.
• A methodical, detail-oriented approach combined with high professional and ethical standards.
