Job Description

We are working with a global market-leading FMCG manufacturer to recruit a Process Development Engineer to join their innovation and technology team based near Wellingborough. 

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly innovative business operating at scale across international markets, supporting the development and delivery of new manufacturing technologies, product innovations, and process improvements within a fast-paced consumer goods environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering projects from concept through to factory implementation, working closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, Supply Chain, Procurement, Marketing, and external suppliers.

This role would suit an engineer with a passion for food processing, manufacturing technology, process optimisation, and new product innovation.

The Role

As the Process Development Engineer, you will support the delivery of manufacturing technologies as part of multi-functional project teams, working across innovation, product renovation, waste reduction, quality improvement, and value engineering projects.

You will take ownership of process development workstreams to ensure projects are delivered on time and in full, from early concept and pilot plant trials through to commissioning and industrial implementation.

Key Responsibilities

Support Project Leaders across multiple innovation and improvement projects
Lead process development activities across product and process design
Design and execute laboratory, pilot plant, and factory trials
Support pilot plant and factory commissioning and troubleshooting
Develop process flow diagrams, functional process designs, and technical specifications
Carry out simulation work to validate process, equipment, and control system performance
Work closely with product technologists and wider R&D teams to develop prototypes
Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing sites, and supply chain teams on new process solutions
Support data acquisition, process control systems, and continuous improvement initiatives
Manage and coordinate industrial trials across UK and international sitesAbout You

We are looking for an organised and technically capable engineer with strong experience in process technology and manufacturing development.

Experience Required

Degree in Engineering, Food Technology, or equivalent experience / apprenticeship
Experience in process technology from design through to implementation
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capability
Experience within FMCG, food, pharmaceutical, or highly regulated manufacturing environments
Proven track record delivering process or product innovations to market
Experience developing and implementing new manufacturing technologies
Strong project management capability
Excellent communication skills and stakeholder management
Fluent EnglishDesirable Background

Process simulation experience
Control systems / data acquisition exposure
Pilot plant or scale-up experience
