Project Manager – Tier 1 Main Contractor

Project Location: Winchester
Regional Office: Brighton
Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 + Package

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Project Manager, or a Senior Site Manager ready to step up, to join a leading Tier 1 contractor delivering major public sector projects across the South.

The successful candidate will lead the delivery of a Ministry of Justice project in Winchester, valued at approximately £16m, consisting of both new build and refurbishment works. The role is project-based in Winchester while being part of the Brighton business unit, with occasional travel to the Brighton office as required. The project has an expected duration of around 18 months with a strong pipeline of future work already secured.

Reporting to the Operational Director, you will lead a project team including a Senior Site Manager, Site Manager, Assistant Site Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Design Manager, Building Services Manager and Planner.

The Role

  * Take full responsibility for the successful delivery of the project from start to completion.

  * Lead and motivate the site and project delivery team.

  * Manage programme, budget, quality, health & safety and commercial performance.

  * Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and stakeholders.

  * Produce accurate internal and external monthly reports.

  * Manage project risks and identify value engineering opportunities.

  * Ensure projects are delivered in line with contractual and statutory requirements.

  * Monitor project costs, forecasts and resource allocation.

  * Champion high standards of safety, quality and environmental performance.

  * Mentor and develop members of the project team.

About You

  * Experience working for a Tier 1 or leading main contractor.

  * Experience delivering projects valued between £15m and £20m.

  * Previous experience on Ministry of Justice projects, ideally within a live prison environment.

  * Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.

  * Experience leading projects as the No.1 on site.

  * Previous Project Manager experience is desirable but not essential.

  * Good understanding of JCT and NEC contracts.

  * Able to complete monthly reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.

  * Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.

  * Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent construction qualification preferred.
