SEN Teacher – Autism & Asperger’s Specialist Setting Location: Rural Dorset Pay: £168.80 – £270.98 per day (Dependent on Experience) Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm Contract Type: Full Time Start Date: April Duration: Until July 2026 (Temporary contract) Are you a patient, creative and resilient educator looking to make a meaningful impact in a specialist autism provision? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to join a highly supportive residential and day setting in Dorset, working with children and young people with autism, Asperger’s and associated communication needs. About the Provision This specialist environment supports learners aged 7–19 with autism, social communication differences and complex learning needs. The setting is known for: A calm, structured and therapeutic environment designed to reduce anxiety and support emotional regulation. A strong emphasis on individualised learning, with small class groups and high staffing ratios. A curriculum that blends academic learning, life skills, independence development, outdoor learning and vocational opportunities. A holistic approach that integrates speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and positive behaviour support. A beautiful rural campus with access to woodlands, outdoor spaces, sensory rooms and specialist teaching areas. The provision focuses on helping students build confidence, communication skills and independence, enabling them to thrive both in school and in the wider community. The Role You will be delivering adapted English and Maths lessons to small groups of students with autism and Asperger’s, supported by experienced Teaching Assistants. Your responsibilities will include: Planning and delivering differentiated, autism‑friendly lessons Using visual supports, structured routines and communication‑supportive strategies Building trusting, consistent relationships with learners Supporting emotional regulation and reducing anxiety triggers Creating a safe, predictable and nurturing classroom environment Working closely with therapy teams and SEN staff to meet individual needs Encouraging independence, social communication and life‑skills development What We’re Looking For Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or strong SEN teaching experience Experience working with autistic learners (desirable but not essential) A calm, patient and empathetic approach Strong understanding of autism‑specific strategies such as TEACCH, visual timetables, sensory regulation and structured teaching Excellent communication and a commitment to child‑centred practice Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Benefits of Working With Us Competitive daily rates A dedicated consultant offering ongoing support Access to CPD including autism training, communication strategies and behaviour support Opportunities for long‑term or permanent roles £100 referral bonus for recommending a friend Interested?
