SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Oldham Recruitment Agency: Teaching Personnel Start Date: ASAP Teaching Personnel are currently recruiting a dedicated, resilient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist school in Oldham, supporting pupils across both primary and secondary age ranges. This specialist provision supports young people aged 4–19 with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), offering a high-quality alternative to mainstream education. The school places strong emphasis on inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and preparing pupils for adulthood in a safe and nurturing environment. The Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex additional needs. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, support staff and families to deliver structured, personalised support that enables each pupil to progress academically, socially and emotionally at their own pace. You will help create a positive and engaging learning environment where pupils feel safe, respected and encouraged to develop confidence, independence and essential life skills. Key Responsibilities Providing tailored support to pupils with SEN Delivering 1:1 and small group interventions, adapting learning to meet sensory, communication and cognitive needs Using specialist communication tools such as PECS, AAC systems, visual timetables and sensory resources Supporting pupils during both regulated and dysregulated behaviours using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies Assisting with lesson preparation and maintaining a safe, inclusive classroom environment Encouraging independence, emotional regulation, confidence and social development through consistent routines and positive relationships Supporting with personal care where required, including toileting, feeding, mobility and changing Essential Requirements Confident, proactive and able to take initiative Patient, flexible and resilient with a strong passion for SEN support Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team Willing to support pupils with personal care and physical needs Available full-time and committed to a long-term role Desirable Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN What Teaching Personnel Offer Long-term, full-time opportunities within specialist education settings Ongoing guidance from a dedicated recruitment consultant Competitive pay rates with weekly pay Access to training and professional development opportunities The chance to make a meaningful, long-term impact on pupils’ lives Apply Now If you are passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs and are looking for a rewarding role within specialist education, we would love to hear from you.
