Job Description

SEN Teaching Assistant

Bury St Edmunds
31.5 hours per week | Permanent
 Start date: As soon as possible

Support teaching staff to deliver engaging, inclusive learning for all pupils, including those with Special Educational Needs, helping them achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Support learning in class, working 1:1 and with small groups
Assist with literacy, numeracy, and curriculum-based activities
Implement IEPs, behaviour plans, and personalised care programmes
Promote positive behaviour, inclusion, and pupil independence
Provide personal care and support medical/health needs where required
Monitor progress, record achievements, and give feedback to staff
Contribute to lesson preparation and classroom organisation
Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
Support school trips, outdoor learning, and enrichment activities
Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment
Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times
Skills & Attributes:

Strong communication and teamwork skills
Proactive, adaptable, and able to use initiative
Patient, caring, and supportive approach
Good organisation and time management
Committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
The successful SEND Learning Support Assistant will have:

Experience working within SEND settings
Experience supporting children in groups or 1:1
Excellent classroom management
A caring and nurturing personality
