Job Description

We are currently partnering with a Legal Firm working on behalf of local authorities based in East Midlands, who are recruiting for a Senior SEN Lawyer with management responsibilities to join their growing team on a permanent or locum basis.

This is a full-time position with a salary band of £52,000 to £60,000 (subject to experience) and locum role is negotiable on experience.

Duties will include (but are not limited to):

  * To lead and manage a team of paralegals (where relevant management responsibilities may also include Trainee Solicitors and newly qualified lawyers)

  * To work as part of a team in the provision of a professional legal service to a range of public sector and not for profit clients regarding SEN and education

  * To manage a case load of complex cases, comprising mainly SEN Tribunal cases, with minimum supervision

  * To attend client liaison meetings to discuss ongoing cases and provide reassurance of a high-quality service

  * To undertake advocacy in case management hearings and final hearings in the first tier SEND Tribunal and to instruct counsel as appropriate

Skills and Experience required:

  * Experience of SEN court and Tribunal procedures

  * Experience of conducting complex caseloads

  * Ability to conduct legal research, interpret legislation and summarise the key points of case law
