Howard Civil Engineering are currently seeking a site engineer with a background in earthworks, remediation and contamination.
Due to additional work awarded on one of our most prestigious projects, Skelton Grange, our site team require additional engineering support.
The project consists of earth remediation, contaminated water, underground demolition, contaminated soil and treatment of mine workings.
We are seeking an engineer to join the established site team. We require the candidate to have held the position of site engineer for at least 5 years and hold a HND in civil engineering or similar.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and review of earthworks designs, including cut and fill balance, slope stability, and drainage considerations.
- Interpret design drawings, specifications, and ground investigation data to plan site operations.
- Contribute to the preparation and review of method statements, risk assessments, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) for earthworks activities.
- Oversee the execution of earthworks operations including excavation, filling, compaction and stabilisation.
- Ensure works are carried out in accordance with earthworks standards.
- Coordinate site testing in collaboration with compaction control tests.
- Review and record test results, identifying trends and ensuring compliance with project specifications.
- Maintain accurate daily records of works, inspections, and test data for quality assurance and audit purposes.
- Ensure earthworks operations comply with CDM Regulations, company safety procedures, and sitespecific health and safety plans.
- Promote a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability within the site team.
- Identify and manage risks such as slope instability, soft ground, or contaminated materials.
- Support environmental controls including dust suppression, sediment control, and waste management.
- Ensure accurate setting out of earthworks features such as formation levels, embankments, and drainage interfaces.
- Check and verify survey data and asbuilt levels.
- Ensure compliance with tolerances and alignment requirements specified in the project drawings.
- Liaise daily with site management, design teams, and client representatives to coordinate works and resolve technical issues.
- Provide updates on progress, quality, and material performance during site meetings.
- Communicate clearly with suppliers and haulage contractors to ensure efficient material delivery and placement.
- Maintain accurate records of site activities, including material source approvals, test results, and inspection reports.
- Contribute to asbuilt records.
Requirements:
- HND in Civil Engineering Level 4 or above
- Valid CSCS card (qualified persons)
- SMSTS / SSSTS
- Awareness of hazardous materials such as Asbestos.
- Experience in remediation and earthworks projects.
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction methodologies.
- A strong knowledge of contamination within land, soil and water.
- Knowledge and experience of setting out equipment and GPS
- At least 5 years in similar role with a proven record of development (Trainee, Engineer)
