Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to oversee the delivery of heavy civils projects across a range of Canal & River Trust schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and hands-on professional with a strong background in infrastructure, waterways, and complex civil engineering environments.

You will play a key role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage day-to-day site operations on heavy civils projects, including structures, earthworks, and water-related infrastructure
- Oversee works on Canal & River Trust schemes, ensuring compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams
- Ensure all health, safety, and environmental standards are met and maintained
- Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and toolbox talks
- Monitor progress against programme and report to senior management
- Maintain accurate site records, including RAMS, permits, and site diaries
- Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities

Requirements

- Proven experience as a Site Manager on heavy civils projects
- Previous involvement in Canal & River Trust or similar waterways/infrastructure schemes is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of civil engineering methods, particularly within water environments
- SMSTS (essential)
- CSCS (Black/Gold Card preferred)
- First Aid at Work
- Temporary Works Coordinator/Supervisor (Essential)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
