Site Manager - Externals & Yard Slabs

Major Construction Project | Externals / Groundworks Package

Our client, a leading main contractor delivering major, logistics‑heavy construction projects, is seeking an experienced Site Manager to take full ownership of the externals and yard slabs package on a high‑profile scheme.

This is a hands‑on, delivery‑focused role suited to a decisive Site Manager who is comfortable taking control of large‑scale groundworks packages in a live construction environment.

The Role

As Site Manager, you will act as the single point of responsibility for the external works package, taking over day‑to‑day control from the engineering function and driving safe, high‑quality delivery to programme.

You will lead all aspects of the groundworks and concrete yard slabs works, coordinating subcontractors, plant, logistics, and temporary works while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Full management and leadership of the externals and yard slabs works package
Delivery of works safely, on programme, and to required quality standards
Day‑to‑day control ofgroundworks including: 
Earthworks
Drainage
Underground services
Sub‑base construction
Concrete yard slabs
Planning, sequencing, and coordination of activities to support programme delivery
Management of subcontractor performance, productivity, and compliance
Coordination of plant movements and site logistics within a live operational environment
Maintaining effective pedestrian and plant segregation and traffic management controls
Reviewing and monitoring RAMS and SSOW in line with company requirements
Shared leadership of daily activity briefings (DABS), ensuring clear communication of risks and controls
Ensuring all permits are in place, understood, and adhered to
Liaison with the Senior Site Engineer for inspections, verification, and technical sign‑off
Ensuring works are inspected, checked, and approved prior to progression
Coordination with TWC, engineers, and surveyors for temporary works and setting‑out
Ensuring company and statutory inspections are carried out by subcontractors
Proactive identification and escalation of programme, safety, and coordination risks
Driving quality control in collaboration with engineering and site management teams
Maintaining accurate site records including diaries, photos, inspections, and briefings
Supporting incident and near‑miss management and ensuring close‑out of actionsCandidate Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

Proven experience managing large‑scale external works packages on major construction projects
Strong technical understanding of: 
Earthworks
Groundworks and drainage
Concrete yards and heavy‑duty external slabs
Experience working on live, logistics‑intensive sites
Solid working knowledge of RAMS, permits, and temporary works
A track record of managing subcontractors and driving performance
SMSTS
CSCS Black or White
First Aid at Work
CAT & Genny (Level 4 or above)

Decisive, proactive, and confident taking full control of a complex package
Strong safety leadership - willing to stop unsafe work immediately
Organised and systems‑driven, with the discipline to follow company processes
Clear, direct communicator capable of managing subcontract management teams
Calm and effective under pressure, able to manage competing priorities
