About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Survey Technical Manager to lead our high performing small Fire Door Survey team. In this key leadership role, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality fire door surveys across the UK, ensuring full compliance with current fire safety regulations while driving operational efficiency and technical excellence.
As the technical authority for the survey function, you will line-manage surveyors including sub-contractors, approve survey outputs for quotation, and work closely with our technical, quoting, and installation teams to develop compliant solutions for complex or non-standard installations.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Management
* Line manage the survey team, including performance management, training, development, and mentoring of surveyors.
* Foster a collaborative and positive team culture.
* Provide regular reports and insights to Managing Director.
Scheduling & Operations
* Oversee the scheduling and allocation of surveys to ensure timely delivery and optimal resource utilisation.
Technical Support & Approval
* Provide expert technical guidance to the team on fire door assessments, passive fire protection, and fire stopping.
* Approve completed surveys prior to handover for quotation.
Compliance & Solutions
* Collaborate with the Technical Department, Quoting teams, and Installation teams to identify and specify compliant solutions for non-standard configurations, fire stopping details, and remedial works.
Stakeholder Liaison
* Act as a key point of contact between the survey team, technical specialists, quoting teams, installation teams, and clients where required.
Quality Assurance
* Maintain the highest standards of survey accuracy, documentation, and regulatory compliance (including Building Regulations, BS 8214, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and associated standards).
* Stay up to date with Health and Safety legislation requirements, escalating changes where needed and incorporating changes into your ways of working.
Process Improvement
* Continuously review and improve survey processes, templates, and reporting systems to enhance efficiency and consistency.
* Take part in Quality meetings.
Essential Requirements
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar technical/survey management role within the fire door, passive fire protection, or fire safety sector.
* Strong technical knowledge of fire doors, ironmongery, fire stopping, and compartmentation.
* Proven experience managing and developing a team of surveyors or technical staff.
* Thorough understanding of UK fire safety legislation and relevant British Standards.
* Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to find compliant solutions for non-standard configurations.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Excellent communication skills
Desirable:
* Formal qualifications such as ABBE Level 3 Fire Door Inspection, FDIS certification, or equivalent.
* Experience working for a fire door manufacturer or specialist fire safety company.
* Knowledge of digital survey/reporting tools and systems.
