Reports to: Construction Superintendent Location: N Somerset Site - Monday to Friday (7:00 - 17:00). (Additional Weekend work available) Status: Contract (renewable) - Inside IR35 All-inclusive rates Morson Edge are delighted to present an opportunity for a qualified and experienced Field Engineer - Welding Inspector to join our client's established work team on a major construction infrastructure Project in Somerset. This is a site based, (renewable) contract position - inside IR35. Broad Scope You will be responsible for providing Surveillance ensuring that Works Contractors' activities are performed in accordance with the Contractor's Work Information. This will include continuous, notified and planned surveillance You will be a staunch advocate of Nuclear Safety Culture and help to embed this approach in all processes and activities undertaken on the Project. You will input into site wide management issues and maintain a high level of interaction and coordination with other operational members of the site wide team. In addition to reporting and liaising responsibilities, as the Field Engineer/Welding Inspector you will be required to adhere to (and suggest enhancements and improvements to) company policies, procedures and protocols for construction, Health & Safety and other functions. Typical Activities: Check the Works are constructed in accordance with the contract and notify the Construction Superintendent of non-conformance request requirements. Submit details of any non-conformance request requirements to assist in the issuing of non-conformance reports. Proactively communicate with other site teams, maintain good communication links and ensure surveillance is timely reported. Contribute surveillance information to support KPI indicators. Endeavour to identify potential Quality issues before they arrive to enable mitigating actions. Support team instructions to take temporary measures to mitigate and keep works safe and within Quality standards. Follow up by taking appropriate and proportionate action (e.g. issue communications, call meetings) to prevent the halt of works Ensure design decisions are not taken "in the field" but are considered and approved via a formal process. Ensure tasks are developed to quality in accordance with the company's requirement for health, safety and environment. Ensure and monitor that Quality Inspection Records are taken and agreed before Works are covered up. Review Contractor performance against the authorised Quality Control Plan Criteria Mechanical Engineering, Materials, Welding qualifications or equivalent vocational training and experience Broad knowledge and wide understanding of the Engineering Construction industry, materials, trades methods and legal requirements Excellent organisation, delegation, and good communication skills Proven experience of writing diaries which are accurate, concise and with relevance to the particular form of contract. Good attention to detail when checking work and materials. And the ability to maintain quality standards in a high-pressure environment. Able to establish appropriate working relationships with the contractors. Working knowledge of relevant British & European standards, construction and design codes/guidelines such as RCC-M, BS EN and ASME. Knowledge of the documentation used in safety critical construction and fabrication environments such as Inspection and Test Plans, End of Erection Status Reports. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience working or studying the fields of metallurgy, welding, and NDT. You may also have any of the following: A welding inspector qualification (e.g. CSWIP 3.1 or equivalent) as well as a basic 'appreciation of NDT' qualification is desirable. Higher level qualifications in both welding (CSWIP 3.2, IWS etc.) NDT (PCN or equivalent) would be desirable although are not essential for the fulfilment of this role. Experience in large power plant design, manufacture and construction. Good working knowledge of Quality Management practices, methods and processes. Knowledge of the fabrication and installation of pressure systems. Depending on the scope covered, experience in structural steel, welded pre-fabrication of reinforcement cages and civil/mechanical interfaces is desirable
