Job Description

About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Maths Teacher to join our specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision in Tonbridge. This is a full-time position working with students who require additional support to engage with education due to social, emotional, and behavioural needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering engaging and differentiated maths lessons, helping students to build confidence, develop essential skills, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally. Key Responsibilities Plan and deliver high-quality maths lessons tailored to meet the diverse needs of SEMH learners Adapt teaching strategies to support students with complex social, emotional, and behavioural challenges Create a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment Monitor and assess student progress, providing clear feedback and targeted support Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and external professionals Contribute to behaviour support strategies and individual education plans (IEPs) Promote positive relationships and emotional wellbeing among students Person Specification Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Experience working within an SEMH setting or with students with additional needs Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build positive relationships A flexible, patient, and empathetic approach Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children Desirable: Experience in alternative provision or specialist education Training in behaviour management strategies (e.g., Team Teach) A strong understanding of trauma-informed practice What We Offer A supportive and collaborative working environment Opportunities for professional development and training Small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios The chance to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people Safeguarding Statement This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
