Senior Mechanical Estimator

Overview

My client is a leading engineering and construction specialist delivering complex, large-scale projects across Europe, with particular expertise in mission-critical environments such as data centres. Operating across the full project lifecycle, the business provides integrated mechanical and electrical solutions from design through to commissioning.

Due to continued growth, my client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join its Dublin-based pre-construction team.

Role Summary

The Senior Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and strategic cost estimates for mechanical packages on high-value projects. This position plays a key role in securing new work and supporting project success from tender stage through to contract award.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the preparation of detailed mechanical cost estimates across a range of large-scale projects
Analyse drawings, specifications, and tender documentation to define scope and identify risks
Manage the full tender process, including subcontractor enquiries and bid submissions
Source and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing
Conduct value engineering and cost optimisation exercises
Support bid reviews and commercial adjudications with senior stakeholders
Collaborate with design, commercial, and delivery teams to ensure alignment
Mentor junior team members and contribute to the development of the estimating function

Candidate Profile

Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline
7-10+ years' experience in mechanical estimating within an M&E or construction environment
Strong experience working on large-scale or mission-critical projects
Solid technical knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC and pipework
Commercially astute with strong analytical and negotiation skills
Proficient in estimating tools and Excel
Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities

Salary & Benefits Package

Base Salary: €90,000 - €110,000 (benchmarked to Dublin market for senior-level estimators, with premium for mission-critical sector experience)
Bonus: Discretionary performance-related bonus (typically 5-15%)
Annual Leave: 25 days + public holidays
Car Allowance: €6,000 - €8,000 per annum (or company vehicle)
Pension: 7.5% employer contribution
