PART-TIME TEACHING ASSISTANT – ROMFORD Location: ROMFORD, London Borough of Havering Hours: Part-time, term-time hours Pay: Competitive hourly rate, dependent on experience Contract: Part-time Raynet is seeking a patient, enthusiastic and reliable Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with their education and personal development. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, families and other professionals to provide personalised support that helps learners participate, communicate and achieve their agreed outcomes. Key responsibilities The Teaching Assistant will provide one-to-one and small-group learning support to children and young people, including learners with autism, communication difficulties, learning disabilities and other special educational needs. The role will involve supporting literacy, numeracy, communication, functional life skills, attention, engagement and emotional regulation. The successful candidate will prepare learning activities and resources under the teacher’s direction, encourage independence and confidence, and support learners to participate meaningfully in their education and community. The Teaching Assistant will be expected to follow individual education plans, risk assessments and behaviour-support strategies. They will record progress, observations and significant information accurately and communicate effectively with teachers, parents, carers and other professionals. The successful candidate must always promote safeguarding, equality, dignity, inclusion and the learner’s voice. Essential requirements Applicants must have experience supporting children or young people in an education, SEND, care or community setting. They must demonstrate patience, compassion, reliability, flexibility, good timekeeping and a person-centred approach. Applicants must have good written and verbal communication skills, understand the importance of professional boundaries and confidentiality, and be able to follow learning plans and professional instructions. Candidates must have the right to work in the United Kingdom and be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check, safeguarding training and all required safer-recruitment checks. Desirable requirements A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be desirable, together with GCSE English and mathematics or equivalent qualifications. Experience supporting learners with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, behaviours of concern or communication needs would be beneficial. Knowledge of positive behaviour support, visual timetables, Makaton or other communication methods would also be advantageous. Paediatric first aid, relevant SEND training and an Enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service would be welcomed.
