Teacher of History - Maternity Cover (April 2026 Start)

Location: Cullompton area
 Start Date: 20th April 2026
 Contract: Fixed Term - Minimum 12 months (maternity cover), with potential to go permanent
 Hours: Full-time, 1.0 FTE
 Pay: Paid to the Teacher Pay Scale (TPS)

Prospero Teaching are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspiring Teacher of History to join a forward‑thinking secondary school in the Cullompton area. This is a fantastic opportunity to teach engaging History lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, within a supportive and high‑achieving Humanities department.

The Role

Deliver engaging and high‑quality History lessons across KS3 and KS4
Teach a GCSE curriculum including:
 Medicine Through Time, Early Elizabethan England (1558-88), Superpower Relations (Cold War), and Germany 1918-39
Contribute to a broad and diverse KS3 curriculum exploring a wide range of historical themes and periods
Plan and deliver adaptive, inclusive lessons that meet the needs of all learners
Support the wider life of the school through tutoring, extra-curricular involvement, and collaboration with colleagues
Assess, track and report on student progress in line with school policy
Promote a positive learning environment rooted in respect, ambition and high expectations

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Essential:

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Strong subject knowledge and the ability to teach History to GCSE
A passion for inspiring young people
Excellent communication and behaviour‑management skills
Commitment to safeguarding, inclusivity, and promoting positive student outcomesDesirable:

Experience teaching the Edexcel GCSE History syllabus
Experience delivering high‑impact interventions
Strong data analysis skills to inform teaching and planning
