SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School

We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary SEMH school in Oldham. The school provides a nurturing and structured environment for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, focusing on building confidence, resilience, and lifelong learning skills.
Your Role:
Support pupils with SEMH needs both inside and outside the classroom
Help manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours using a calm, consistent approach
Build strong, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and emotional regulation
Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions
Work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to support individual progress
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
A patient, understanding, and empathetic nature
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
The ability to remain calm under pressure and use positive behaviour strategies
(Desirable) A relevant TA qualification or Team Teach / behaviour management training
