Job Description

We're looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Year 1 Teaching Assistant (General with SEN Focus) to join our dedicated team from January 2026 on a full-time, term-time basis (Monday - Friday). As a Year 1 Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital role in shaping the educational journey of our Key Stage 1 learners. You'll be responsible for providing general classroom support and working directly with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEN). You will work collaboratively with the class teacher and colleagues to promote the effective delivery of the curriculum and maximize children's achievement. We are recruiting for this role at a primary school in Blackburn (BB2). Pay Rate: £13.68 - £13.90 per hour Hours: 6.5 hours per day (Term-time only) We're looking for someone who can wholeheartedly embrace the following responsibilities: Delivering outstanding support to all pupils in the class, tailoring your approach to their individual educational needs within the Key Stage 1 framework, with a particular focus on SEN provision. Creating a well-ordered and secure environment that fosters the educational well-being and holistic development of every child. Making effective use of resources to enhance learning and teaching across the curriculum. Undertaking careful preparation and delivery of small group and 1:1 interventions for pupils who require additional support in literacy and numeracy. Conducting careful and ongoing assessment through observation of pupils' learning, particularly those with SEN, to inform planning and interventions. Differentiating the curriculum to match tasks and activities to the diverse abilities of children, allowing them to progress at their optimal pace and level. Completing all relevant records in a timely fashion, adhering to school policy. Working collaboratively with the class teacher and school leaders to track individual pupil progress and implement timely interventions where needed. Implementing individual pupil plans (IPPs) or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) for children with specific needs, in conjunction with school leaders and the SENCo. Ensuring equal opportunities are actively implemented in the classroom and throughout the school. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with parents, actively involving them in the learning process where appropriate. Actively participating in staff meetings and contributing to whole-school development. Contributing to the whole school ethos by assisting with classroom displays and the general appearance of the learning environment. Cooperating with other staff and professional agencies as appropriate to meet the needs of the children. Engaging in ongoing in-service training for your continued professional development as a Teaching Assistant. Undertaking other duties as reasonably assigned by the Headteacher or Class Teacher to ensure the smooth running of the school.
